Cover Letter for Jobs in Pakistan

Cover letters generally fall into one of two categories:

A.  Letter of application: You are applying for a specific, advertised opening.

B.  Letter of inquiry: Here you are expressing an interest in an organization, but you are not certain if there are current position open.

The Nine Elements Your Winning Cover Letter Must Contain.

This cover letter checklist applies to both hard copy correspondence and e-mail. The main difference between e-mail and hard copy correspondence is the layout or format:  With e-mail, your signature block (address, etc.) will go below your name.  In a hard copy it goes at the top of the page. Of course with e-mail you won’t have a handwritten signature, but make sure you don’t forget this on your hard copy.

  1. Your Address / Phone Block.  Top of the page for the hard copy.  At the bottom for an e-mail cover letter.
  2. Explain exactly why you are sending a resume.
  3. Do not send a resume without a cover letter.
  4. Make sure you are specific about what it is you want.  Do not make the reader guess. Instead be specific as possible.  Are you inquiring about job opportunities in the future? Or are you looking for a summer internship or a permanent job opportunity now?
  5. State specifically how you learned of the position or the organization.  Was it from a web site, a friend or family member, an employment advertisement or flyer posted in your department.  And it is perfectly OK to mention the name of the person who suggested that you write about the position.
  6. Now, here’s the difficult part.  Your cover letter must now convince the reader to look at your resume.  Send your best cover letter because it’s the first thing a potential hiring manager will read.  Therefore it is critical it’s very well written and highly targeted to that employer or position.

Specifically, you must include all these elements.

Highlight the elements of your education, experience, background and leadership that are relevant to the job or position you are seeking.  Again, be specific as possible and use examples.

Look, It’s not easy writing effective cover letters that really work and make your phone ring.

Cover letters are the first thing a potential employer sees about you.  So it is vital you make a good and immediate impression.  This is very important and you really don’t want to leave this to chance or luck.  So, this is why I recommend to friends and family that they take a look at Amazing Cover Letters.  Now, his web site is a little off putting but the results from the software are outstanding.

7) Make sure you refer or provide any information specifically asked for in the job advertisement that you have not included so far.  For instance,   when are you available, samples of your writing or examples of your work.

8)  Make sure you let the potential employee know exactly how you will follow up.  And again, be as specific as possible and take the initiative.

Examples could be:

“I look forward to hearing from you.”

A better example would be:

“I will contact you in the next two weeks to see if you require any additional information regarding my qualifications.”   You can see this is much more proactive.  You are in charge here.  Sometimes,  employers will specifically state “no phone calls.”

Another example for an inquiry application letter would be:

“I will contact you in two weeks to learn more about upcoming employment opportunities with (name of organization).”

Note:  Make sure you do follow up exactly as you stated you would.  What turns a hiring manager off the most?  Someone who does not follow through and do what they said they would.

9)  Finally, your signature.  Hand written if it is a hard copy or typed out if it’s an e-mail.

Below is the basic outline for an effective cover letter.
